Music Is The Answer - "Hoarding Hustlaball" - Special Post

“HOARDING HUSTLBALL”
MUSIC IS THE ANSWER – SPECIAL POST
SATURDAY 1ST MAY

On the eve of one of the horniest & testosterone fuelled events to hit the gAylist London scene, where music is very much matched by prolific stage shows, debaucherous activity & sexual intrigue, it comes as no surprise that a number of D.J.’s have decided to mark this momentous occasion by laying down some excellent compilations, giving you an insight both to their current music styles and the type of tunes they will be playing live.

Yes, Hustlball returns to the capital for its annual outing and this year the party looks set to be bigger, better & more glamorous than ever, with a veritable feast of performers, porn stars and, of course, D.J’s to make sure that The Renaissance Rooms in Vauxhall is a hotbed of activity from start to finish. So, we thought that it would only be fair to share with you three fabulous compilations that have been released and definitely deserve a big shout.

First up is what we are told is the “official” 2010 Hustlaball mix by Hifi Sean Dickson, who will be representing the Hard On! room at this year’s event. Sean should be well known to you through our posts here, but has definitely made a name for himself right across the London gAylist clubbing scene, holding down residencies at clubs events such as Juicy, Beyond and, of course Hard On!, but also playing regularly at Fire/Area for Orange, as well as both Barcode Vauxhall & Soho, Sean running a monthly event at BCV called “Our House”, while he is a guest features at BCS’s Friday nighter The Cave. Hifi’s music style is very much tech, deep & progressive based, although he often injects a bit of funk & electro dependant on the club & audience and we have been well & truly hooked to his style since being blown away by a massive performance at Orange’s “Summer Of Love” last year, plus a whole string of stunning sets at favourite afterhours club Beyond, where he mixes it up virtually weekly, either in the main room, the black box or the terrace bar and even recently treated us to an impromptu back-to-back performance with George Sharp. Away from the D.J. decks, Sean gets into the studio regularly and is constantly working on new tracks to play & sample out on the scene, especially with fellow “Our House” resident Severino, but has a series of compilation mixes entitled “Psychedelic House” & “Tech Noir”, but also lays down special mixes for various club nights he plays at. So, with Hustlaball being such a huge happening, Sean has put together 77 minutes of tunes that will very much reflect his style, but with an added seductive & sexual edge that screams Hustlaball!! To grab your slice of Hustla-Hifi, go to http://hifsean.podomatic.com/ and you can catch the man playing live in the Hard On! room at The Renaissance rooms tonight (2nd May) from midnight(ish) and we know he is thrilled to be part of this event, Sean remarking “...it’s a honour to be part of such a great night with some fantastic D.J’s...”, but in truth the honour is ours for having the chance to savour this man’s talents yet again, no doubt under the mirrorball of magical music.

Next up is fellow Hard On! resident & all round scene superstar Brent Nicholls, who has played pretty much everywhere across gAylist/land London since landing from Australia around 15 years ago, the list being exhaustive, but has included biggies Action, Beyond, Juicy, Lovechild, Matinee, Pervert & Trade, he also still jetting out across the globe, having played in all five continents as well as at some of the biggest events both at home & abroad. These aside, Mr Nicholls has been part of the roving residency team from Barcode for many years, playing regularly at BCS & also for Industri at BCV, he is part of the D.J. team at Profile/Lo-Profile, has played at The Edge and also features at Rupert Street, he having treated us to a superb set just two nights ago at the Hustlaball pre-party which was held there. Brent is, for us, probably THE most talented D.J. we know as his ability to switch between genres, catering for the audience he plays to, is outstanding, he being just as comfortable with hard edged tech & underground sounds, as well as funky electro remixes of classic or up-to-date pop tunes, Lady GaGa & Beyonce being just as home in his playlists as are Mark Knight & David Penn, but with everything in between. What’s more, he has an acute sense of spotting forthcoming dancefloors hits long before many others, which makes his music offers really cutting edge and part of his current repertoire is what he describes as “Nu Funk House” which is very characteristic of his musical direction at the moment, although he is well known for his latin infused electro beats & you will always see him moving to the sounds while D.J.’ing, his sets having both journey tendencies as well as uplifting tones, vocals here & there, but always the freshest new sounds mixed in with old favourites (disco electrique!!). However, Hard On! remains one of his favourite clubs and his music style definitely goes down well at this monthly outing at Hidden, so it was a foregone conclusion that he would be representing the club at Hustlaball and even more so that he would mark the occasion with his own compilation which is an absolute corker, Brent explaining of his compilation & appearance at The Renaissance Rooms tonight “...When people enter the venue I will be one of the first DJs they will hear...so creating an accessible soundtrack is important...yet, I need to reflect the HARD ON feel...” he adding about his mix “...there is a strong percussive and latin feel to embrace the passion and this is underpinned by some dirty bass lines and beats in line with the sexual/porn star/gogo vibe of the event...” And he has certainly succeeded in bucket loads, a glorious collection of 15 tracks that include one of our fave tunes of now, Leventina’s “Esperado” and you simply have to go listen to this magnificent mix which you can stream at http://djbrentnicholls.com/music, or keep your eyes peeled for free download options through Facebook & SeenQueen. Catch Brent in both The VIP room for the launch reception, then in the Hard On! room and after that snapping pics & no doubt having a boogie.

Our third Hustla in the mixing market is the cute & cuddly Eduardo De La Torre who makes a welcome return to London especially for Hustlaball, having made Berlin his home just 18 months ago. However, Eduardo is no stranger to moving around the globe, indeed this product of Venezuela has laid his hat in Spain as well as here in blighty, Germany however always drawing him back, Eduardo remarking that “...the pace of life is so much easier to deal with in Berlin, London is just so busy & while I love it, sometimes it is just too hectic for me...”. Mind you, while in London, Eduardo really made an impression of the scene, playing for Matinee, Revolver, Future parties at The Colosseum in Vauxhall as well as running his own Friday night club “Uncut” in central London and featuring regularly at Barcode, both BCV & BCS. But, Europe is Edu’s playing ground as he not only spreads the De La Torre magic across Germany, having been part of huge events Hamburg Pride, Gay Happening, Pearls Of The Night & Clubs United, as well as playing out regularly at clubs Spundloch & 136 Grad in Hamburg, but also playing for inbound Salvation at Berlin as well as over in Copenhagen and Stockholm, and other circuit events across northern Europe, having also recently played in Moscow for tip top club Propaganda, but he also tries to squeeze in the odd trip back to his native Venezuela, evoking this man’s passion for travel although he admits that “...hotels can be a bit sterile sometimes, but is part of the territory of travel...”. As for his music style, well Edu definitely nods towards the funky, tribal & tech genres of house, but definitely mixes it up with plenty of progressive beats with the odd sprinkle of vocals here & there that give his performances a distinctive yet enticing feel, very seductive yet fulfillingly funky with euro style undertones that go down an absolute storm wherever he plays. And he tries to get into the studio from time to time, laying down compilations that reflect his activity out on the clubbing scene, but also mixing up the occasional track here & there, a recent track release, a remix work of artist Q,Boys’ record “Set It Up/Pull It Off”, very distinctively in the De la Torre style, progressive yet also electro & funky as well as involving the rich Q Boy the vocals to give it a real euro-style big stage sound, this pretty much summing up his latest mix which he has put together for Hustlaball, Eduardo playing out at this testosterone fuelled sexy event in the main room from 4.30 a.m., but if this mix is anything to go by the room will be packed solid for the whole of his set and there can be no better way to get yourselves in the Hustlaball mood than downloading it at http://soundcloud.com/dj-edu-de-la-torre/hustlablall-london-2010-mixed-by-dj-edu-de-la-torre, we are completely hooked for sure.

Now, news in at the pre-party on Friday is that Steven Redant, who jets in for the after-party, Orange-Hustla at Fire, will be recording his set and releasing it later this coming week, and we are reliably informed that Nick Tcherniak has been in the studio and his Hustlaball mix so sooo “hot off the press” it is still smoking!!. Nick plays at the main event at The Renaissance Rooms, kicking things off in the main room (choices, choices, Nicholls & Tcherniak!!), as well as that the after-party (we are spoiled!) and you can grab his devotion to all things Hustla at http://nicktcherniak.podomatic.com/, it’s a veritable feast of tech, progressive & electro with an afro-latin flavour, yum yum!!

We just have time to give a shout to favourite clubbing website SeenQueen, which has a fabulous choice of music and you can grab plenty of the latest works by your favourite D.J.’s at http://seenqueen.com/music, they also featuring a Hustlaball mix by Hard On! resident Hugos-land.

So, if you are heading down to Vauxhall tonight for some horny, fun-filled action at Hustlaball, there is no better way to get yourselves in the mood, than checking out all these mixes. If not, then have a listen and get a feel for what you will be missing out on, some amazingly brilliant music from some the hunkiest, horniest, sexy & talented D.J’s around, so as we like to say “sit back, turn up the volume and let the music play...”
